Make up naturally – Simple guide in 10 steps

Sometimes we want natural make-up, especially for everyday life, that looks like you didn’t put on any make-up at all, a so-called “no makeup look”. It’s easy to fix with little simple tricks; I’ll tell you how to do it in this post.

To apply natural make-up, you need primer, a foundation, bronzer, blush in creamy or liquid form, concealer, and a setting spray that makes the make-up last but also gives it shine.

Apply your make-up naturally in 10 steps (with these simple tips)

In order to get a natural make-up that looks unmade-up, it is very much about a good base. In this post, I will start with a 10-step guide on how to achieve a natural no makeup look in the best way. At the bottom of the post, I include some tips and tricks and things that may be good to think about in order to succeed with natural make-up.

1. Moisturize the skin – Provides a good make-up base

The most important thing to succeed with natural makeup is that you have a good base to apply makeup on. By that I mean you have a clean and moisturized face. And I would say this step is the most important of all. You want your skin to be as good as possible.

If you neglect cleansing and moisturizing, your makeup will not sit well on the skin and if you are dry, it will be more visible when you apply the rest of the make-up.

To get good and moisturized skin, you need this:

  • Facial cleansing
  • Tones
  • Serum
  • Eye cream
  • Face cream

2. Use primer – Smoothest and reduces pores

A primer ensures that your foundation will sit well. It also helps smooth skin and reduce pores, leaving you looking smooth. A must for getting a perfect base and make-up that lasts all day.

My favorite primer that I often use before applying foundation is smash box photo finish primer; it really blurs the skin and is a primer with a glow. Choose a primer that suits you and your skin type.

3. Foundation – Provides an even base

Foundation evens out the skin tone, but to get the natural no-makeup look, you should use a slightly lighter foundation, not one that is completely covering. I would recommend a good cc-cream when you want a smooth and nice base but not a full coverage base.

You want a bit of your own skin to shine through the makeup so that it looks as natural as possible. A tip is to drop some glow drops (liquid highlighter) or glow serum into your foundation before you apply it to your face.

Click out an amount of foundation on the back of the hand and take 1-2 drops of glow serum or glow drops and mix them together. Then apply the foundation with a beauty blender for light and natural coverage.

4. Concealer – Cover small blemishes

A concealer is for covering dark circles and small blemishes such as spots and pimples on the face. Remember to never use the same color of your concealer as you have under your eyes when you are going to cover, for example, pimples. You usually wear a shade lighter concealer under your eyes to brighten them up.

Should you cover e.g. a pimple, you should not use the same color of concealer but one that seint makeup color match your skin tone better. So always invest in two colors of concealer.

5. Apply a creamy bronzer – Shape the face

To shape your face and give it some color, use a cream or liquid bronzer. By using a creamy bronzer, it becomes more natural and blends better into the skin.

Apply the bronzer directly to the skin as a three on both halves of the face. Then blend out the side of the forehead, under the cheekbones, and down the jawline with a make-up brush.

Tip! On the other hand, if you have oily/oily skin, avoid creamy and liquid make-up and use an ice fall of a powder bronzer for best results. If your skin is oily and greasy, creamy and liquid make-up will just slide around on your face.

6. Apply creamy blush – It perks up

After you’ve applied your bronzer, it’s time to add some seint color match to your cheeks. You also use a creamy or liquid blush here as it blends nicely into the skin, liquid and creamy make-up also gives a nice and natural glow, which means you don’t have to use a highlighter.

Apply a little blush on the apple of your cheek to make it look like you’ve been out and choose a blush that matches your own color on your cheeks that you get naturally when you’ve been out. A tip is to lightly pinch your cheeks to see which shade of blush you should choose.

7. Fill in the eyebrows – Frames the face

Filling in the eyebrows makes you frame your face, and choose a color as close to your own brows as possible, usually, they are a little darker than your own hair color.

It is important that you brush your eyebrows after filling them in to fade out the brow hairs a little so that they do not become so sharp and marked. But also for brushing and shaping your brows. Finish with a brow gel that keeps the brows in place.

8. Toning down any shine – To avoid looking flashy

You want a natural glow to your make-up but not look shiny or flashy. Take a transparent powder (setting powder) and sweep lightly over the face to dampen excess shine. A good transparent powder that does that job is By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Powder. It evens out and reduces shine without removing shine.

If you only want to soften in smaller areas, use a smaller make-up brush and dab the powder on the places on the face, which may be under the eyes and near the nose.

9. Apply Mascara – To highlight the eye

To open up and highlight your eyes, just apply mascara. Start by curling your lashes with an eyelash curler that opens up your eyes and makes you look perkier.

Then apply your favorite mascara to the upper lashes to highlight and make your lashes look longer and fuller.

10. Finish with a setting spray – So the make-up stays on all-day

Always finish a make-up application by spraying a setting spray all over the face. It keeps your make-up in place all day. You can find setting sprays that mattify, add shine and moisturize.

Choose the setting spray that suits you. I always use a setting spray that gives a little extra shine. If you have oily/oily skin, I would choose a setting spray that helps to dull the shine.
